National Safe Sex Activist to Visit CSU, Chico
As a part of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, safe sex activist Joel Goldman will present his lecture “Sex Under the Influence” on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Bell Memorial Union on the California State University, Chico campus.
For the last eight years Goldman, a nationally renowned HIV-positive college lecturer, has presented lectures on the dangers of mixing sex and alcohol. He bases his lectures on his own life experiences and the mistakes he made while he was in college. Humor, personal experiences, interactive exercises and video are used to help students better understand how sexual decisions made under the influence of alcohol can affect their lives.
Goldman said he views his presentations as taking a negative aspect of his life and turning it into a positive one by educating others. He has spoken to more than 700,000 students since 1993 and has received national honors from the National Interfraternity Conference, the Association of Fraternity Advisors and the Ryan White Foundation for his work in AIDS prevention.
“Sex Under the Influence” is a free lecture and is sponsored by the Campus Alcohol & Drug Education Center, Student Activities and the Associated Students.
