2001 Homecoming Includes Free Concert, Time Capsule Openings

California State University, Chico’s Homecoming week, “A World of Possibilities,” is planned for Oct. 1-7. A week’s worth of reunions, athletics and entertainment are planned for alums and community members.

Reunion activities begin with the Class of 1951 Golden Grad dinner on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and an Associated Students Alumni Reunion Reception in the new student union building (BMU) at 6:30 p.m.. Golden Grads are invited to a luncheon on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Alumni activities are also being planned for physical education and agriculture alumni.

Time capsules from the years 1931, 1941 and 1951 will be opened at 10 a.m. on Saturday in front of Kendall Hall. 1931 was the first year that a class buried a time capsule, which makes it especially interesting. A university BBQ follows at 11:30 a.m. on the Rose Garden Lawn.

The weekend festivities of Oct. 5, 6 and 7 coincide with the World Music Festival, an Academic Fair, and many athletic events. World Music concerts, which begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday on the Kendall lawn, are free and open to the public. Two A.S. Presents concerts in the Free Speech Area at noon on Wednesday and Thursday are also free.

CSU, Chico’s College of Humanities and Fine Arts will present a free Homecoming concert Saturday, Oct. 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall. The program will include musical theatre selections, singing and instrumental works that showcase the best student music and theatre talent in the college. The public is invited.

The College of Agriculture is holding several events at the University Farm, including a tour, auction, wine and cheese tasting, and dinner/dance. Contact Jean Nelsen for more information at 530-898-5844.
