High School Counselors from Region Visit CSU, Chico
California State University, Chico is hosting approximately 450 high school counselors at the CSU Fall 2001 High School Counselor Conference today, Sept. 24.
The event is an opportunity for the counselors to meet representatives from various CSU campuses, hear about CSU admissions policies and discuss issues facing high school students entering college.
Along with opening and closing sessions for everyone, the conference will feature break-out sessions on topics such as financial aid, pre-teacher certification programs and career trends. The counselors will also participate in forums where they can provide feedback to the CSU admissions staff.
Most conference sessions are taking place in the Bell Memorial Union, though some break-out sessions are in other locations around campus.
The event is one of five statewide conferences for high school and/or community college counselors. The other sites are Pasadena, CSU, Stanislaus, CSU, Monterey Bay and San Diego.
Rocky Raquel, associate director of admissions, said hosting the conference benefits CSU, Chico by showcasing the campus for counselors and introducing them to faculty and staff making presentations.
