14th Annual Math Field Day to Be Held
More than 200 eighth-, ninth- and tenth-grade students from Northern California are expected to participate in the 14th annual Math Field Day, Friday, May 4, at California State University, Chico.
In the morning, students will attend class sessions and workshops on various mathematical topics. From 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. they will participate in the “Steeplechase” on the lawn next to Modoc Hall, or in Acker Gym in case of rain. The “Steeplechase” is a popular contest where students are placed in teams of six and compete in a series of mathematical activities. The six teams with the highest scores will receive T-shirts.
Sponsors of Math Field Day include the CSU, Chico Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the College of Natural Sciences, the Center for Science and Mathematics Education, the CSU, Chico Math Club and the Mt. Lassen Mathematics Council.
