Professor of Sociology to Host “Juvenile Firesetters” Presentation

California State University, Chico alumnus and professor of sociology at Cal Poly Pomona, Wayne Wooden, will host a presentation titled “Juvenile Firesetters,” tomorrow, April 27, at 2 p.m. in Holt Hall 170.

The presentation will be based on Wooden’s book, “Children and Arson: America’s Middle-Class Nightmare.”

Wooden is being honored tomorrow night at the university’s 2001 Distinguished Alumni Dinner. Wooden is the distinguished alumnus from the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Wooden visited CSU, Chico earlier this year to host a Conversations on Diversity forum addressing the issue of groups becoming alienated from society, a frequent topic in his books. His published books include “Renegade Kids, Suburban Outlaws” and “Men Behind Bars: Sexual Exploitation in Prison.”

Wooden graduated from CSU, Chico with a bachelor’s degree in social science in 1965. Wooden earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Wooden has been a professor at Cal Poly Pomona since 1981, and was awarded the Professor of the Year award in 1988-89 and 1995-96.
