Interim College of Business Dean Named

California State University, Chico College of Communication and Education Dean Stephen King has agreed to be interim dean of the College of Business, taking over for Dean Heikki Rinne, who has accepted a position in private industry.

King will be interim dean through June 30, 2001. He will maintain his position at Communication and Education during that time. A national search for Dean Rinne’s replacement will begin immediately.

Rinne, who became dean of the college in fall 1999, has accepted the position of president of eFruit International Inc., based in Orlando, Fla.

“Dean King has a demonstrated record of successful and effective leadership, and he will serve the College of Business well during this period of transition,” said Scott McNall, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We wish Dean Rinne well in his new career direction. He has played an important role in the college’s recent achievements.”

In December 2000, the college received accreditation re-affirmation from the AACSB — The International Association for Management Education. In a confirmation to Rinne, the AACSB chair gave the college high marks for its responsiveness to the accrediting process, leadership from Rinne and former Interim Dean Marc Siegall, and progress by the college faculty in increasing scholarship and academic excellence.
