The Office of International Programs at California State University, Chico will host a two and a half-week training program in “Association Building and Media Advertising. ” The program is designed to strengthen the role of independent media in Russia by increasing the quality of advertising campaigns and to assist in the development of an effective association to support its members through training and lobbying. Participants will be exposed to several advertising styles which will assist them in defining the strategies and missions of their respective departments. The team of trainers is led by nationally renowned expert Fred Thorne, lecturer at CSU, Chico, and Michael Mears, CEO of Wisenheimers and former president of Breakthrough Communications.
The fourteen Russians arrived in Chico on Friday, October 20, 2000 and depart on November 8. The program will also consist of Experience America activities to introduce participants to the diversity of American culture, free enterprise economics, and grassroots democracy. They will spend a weekend with a local family.
The program is designed to foster permanent, on-going relationships with professionals from CSU, Chico, Russian media sales representatives and independent commercial sector counterparts. Upon completion of the program, participants will have enhanced professional skills and direct experience in and understanding of an established free press and free market setting.
