Outstanding Staff Employee Honored
On April 27, 2000, Felicia Contreras was honored on the CSU, Chico campus as the 1999-2000 Outstanding Staff Employee. Contreras is the credentials analyst in Academic Advising Services who works with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. She has worked for the university for more than 28 years.
As the credentials analyst, Contreras is in direct contact with 12 departments and keeps approximately 22 credential subject matter advisers, eight program coordinators, and two department chairs apprised of all regulatory matters and any potential changes in regards to teacher credentialing. She is the final contact person for student teachers prior to receiving their teaching credential. Contreras works with students to put together their portfolios of required documents, including transcripts, test scores, experience, health tests, and fingerprints, and then evaluates them. The commission accepts her recommendations without question. Contreras is an active member of the California Community of Teacher Credentials and the Credentials Counselors and Analysts of California.
Caroline Aldrich-Langen, director of Academic Advising Services, describes Contreras as one of the top five credentials analysts in the state. “Her work is impeccable,” said Aldrich-Langen. “Felicia is dedicated to her work, compassionate with students, and highly regarded by everyone who works with her.”
In addition to her university service, Contreras is active as a member of the campus Latino Committee and as a member of the Hispanic Association for Community and Education. She is an active participant in the university’s Needy ChildrenÕs Program during the Christmas season.
