Regional and Continuing Education Interim Dean Named
Debra Barger, associate dean of the Center for Regional and Continuing Education at California State University, Chico, has been named interim dean of the center for a two-year term.
Barger begins her new duties June 2. She replaces Ralph Meuter, longtime CSU, Chico faculty member and Regional and Continuing Education dean, who retired this spring.
Barger has been associate dean at the center since 1998, and was director of summer session and extension programs from 1988 to 1998.
Prior to joining CSU, Chico, she resided in Wiesbaden, Germany, from 1981 to 1988. She served as assistant dean for City Colleges of Chicago-Europe, where she administered educational programs to NATO forces and Department of Defense civilians throughout Europe and the Middle East.
Barger earned a masterÕs degree from the L.B.J. School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin in 1981. Her bachelorÕs degree is from Smith College.
Barger is a member of the University Continuing Education Association and the Western Association of Summer Session Administrators, where she served as president in 1996-97.
Barger is the third administrator hired at CSU, Chico this spring. Brenda Aden, former director of faculty personnel services at Humboldt State University, is the new vice provost of human resources. Aden begins work July 19. Jeanne Thomas, former dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Southwest Missouri State University, is the new dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. She starts at CSU, Chico Aug. 1.
