Brenda Aden, director of faculty personnel services at Humboldt State University, has been named vice provost of human resources at California State University, Chico.

Aden will begin her new duties July 19, 2000. Michael Biechler, vice provost for human resources the past seven years, retired this spring.

Aden has served in her current post at Humboldt State since 1997. Prior to that, she was affirmative action officer for Humboldt State from 1990 to 1996. She has also held administrative posts in human resources and legal areas at the University of Iowa and Miami University of Ohio.

Among her duties in her current position at Humboldt State are the administration of the collective bargaining agreement for faculty and oversight of faculty recruitment.

Aden was a tenured social science faculty member at Danville Area Community College in Danville, Ill., from 1974 to 1985, serving as social science department chair from 1977-81. She also taught part-time and developed distance learning courses at Cedar Rapids Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Aden received her juris doctor degree in 1988 from the University of Iowa, where her emphasis was in higher education and employment law. Her masterÕs and bachelorÕs degrees are from the University of Illinois.

“We are fortunate to have someone with her knowledge of the CSU and depth of experience in working with faculty and staff personnel issues,” said Scott McNall, CSU, Chico provost and vice president for academic affairs. “She brings to us a strong background with a degree in law, experience as an affirmative action officer and demonstrated skill in helping to resolve issues. We welcome her to the university and the community.”

“I look forward to working with such a respected faculty and accomplished administration,” said Aden.
