The Museum of Anthropology Searches for Best Guacamole

On Saturday, May 13, the Museum of Anthropology at California State University, Chico will hold the fourth annual Guacamole Festival. This event is a fund-raiser for the museum and takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the museum on the 3rd floor of the Langdon Engineering Center.

Event participants will taste and vote for their favorite guacamole. Attendees can also sample an assortment of beverages and win door prizes. The cost to attend the event is $10 for one or $15 for two. Museum Alliance members receive a 20 percent discount off these prices.

There are two competition categoriesÑrestaurant and individual. Competing restaurants include El Indio Tortillas, El Patron Taqueria, RicardoÕs, Tacos Cortes and Tres Hombres. Last year, Tacos Cortes took first place in the restaurant division, and Amy Zelson from the Department of Anthropology was the individual winner.

Proceeds from this event support the Museum of Anthropology, which has a focus on human history and cultures. The museum provides outreach services to public schools in the region, including low-cost workshops and free educational museum tours.

Sponsors include The California Avocado Commission, Butte Creek Brewery, Sierra Nevada Brewery and Tuscan Brewery.

To enter into the competition, sign up with Aly Wood, curator, at the Museum of Anthropology and bring at least a quart of your own special guacamole, plus a list of ingredients (not a recipe) to the museum by noon on the day of the event.

For more information regarding admission or competition, call Wood at (530) 898-5397.
