Students Experience Chemistry at Field Day
The Department of Chemistry at California State University, Chico is hosting Chemistry Field Day on Monday, April 10, 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
More than 100 students from Lassen High in Susanville, Quincy High in Quincy and Almanor High School in Chester will visit campus to learn about chemistry.
The high school students will participate in a Chemistry Bowl quiz show from 10 a.m. to noon in the Physical Sciences Building, rooms 305, 317 and 321, and then have lunch in the amphitheatre.
The students will view a chemistry magic show put on by members of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, an undergraduate chemistry club, in Plumas Hall room 102, 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
At the end of the show, the winning quiz show team will be awarded a prize, and the students will return to the Physical Science building and learn how to do the demonstrations they’ve seen. The idea is that they can then return to their own communities and put on a magic show for youngsters at an elementary school in their community.
