California State University, Chico’s Summer Session Starts June 5

California State University, Chico announces that registration for Summer Session 2000 is now open. This year, more than 3,000 students are expected to participate in more than 270 courses offered during Summer Session.

The accelerated three- and six-week courses run from June 5 to August 16 and are open to everyone. Formal admission to the university is not required. Summer Session is a popular choice for degree seekers, transfer students, high school students and lifelong learners.

Summer Session 2000 includes Court Theatre, in its 34th season and one of the longest continuously operating summer theatres in California. Court Theatre will present four productions this summer.

Educators and those working toward a teaching credential will find more than 70 specialized education courses that will help them enhance their classroom skills and provide required professional continuing education credits.

Archaeology students from throughout the United States will join CSU, Chico students for two summer archaeology field courses. This year CSU, Chico’s Archaeological Field School will make base camp at the Eagle Lake Field Station and will do survey work for the National Park Service at Lassen Volcanic National Park.

For youth, the Computer & Technology Camp is a great opportunity for 7-12th graders to learn advance computer and technology applications.

The Institute for Reading Development will return to Chico to offer eight individual reading programs for children and adults.

The university will host the Spanish Summer Institute, an intensive language immersion program conducted by the Tehama County Office of Education. The American Language and Culture Institute will provide intensive English language education to more than 90 visiting Japanese students.

For many Chico students, summer is a chance to explore new opportunities. Experiential Education has placed hundreds of students in summer internships throughout the world.

Summer Session

In addition to this summer session programming, departments all over campus are sponsoring summer programs such as these: Chico StateÕs Recreational Sports Adventure Day Camp for children 6-15 years of age, mid June to early August; Upward Bound programs for high school students, June 17ÐJuly 28; Summer Orientation and Advising sessions for new students, June 12 - July 21; basketball camp for children in 4th - 12th grades, June 12 - July 21; Climbing Wall for children and adults, mid June through July; the Fourth of July Pops Concert and Fireworks Display; and other special events.
