Africa Day Celebrations

California State University, Chico’s African Studies Program and Africa Club presents Africa Day Celebrations: Prospects and Challenges in the 21st century.

The two-day celebration begins on Friday, April 14, where there will be a display of African artifacts and a showing of African movies in Trinity Hall room 126, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The event continues on Saturday, April 15, when African Studies coordinator Professor Hassan Sissay and Africa Club president Marosi Lameck will give a welcome address starting at 6:30 p.m. in Selvesters Cafe.

Saturday at 7 p.m., a traditional African dinner will be served, and at 8 p.m. keynote speaker Dr. Sylvia Ojukuto Macauley, a professor at Truman State University, will present “The African Woman: Prospects and Challenges in the 21st Century.”

The evening will conclude with African dancing and drumming to music provided by DJ Jerald Sama of San Jose.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies, The School of Graduate, International and Sponsored Programs, the Africa Club and the Black Student Alliance.
