Cleanup to Help Campus and Community
More than 500 students, staff and faculty of California State University, Chico plan to gather on Saturday, April 8, for a day of cleaning, planting, graffiti removal, painting and pulling weeds in several downtown Chico areas and on the CSU, Chico Campus.
The second annual Scour & Devour will begin at 9 a.m. in the Free Speech Area on campus, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will conclude at noon with a free barbecue lunch for the volunteers.
Scour & Devour volunteers will target specific areas in north campus neighborhoods, south campus neighborhoods, downtown Chico, along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, on the CSU, Chico campus and near Nord Avenue near Safeway.
Workers will be placed in teams to clean and beautify these areas while broadening their friendships and relationships in a service oriented atmosphere. Scour & Devour gives faculty, students and other members of the Chico community the opportunity to work together toward a common goal of helping their city with their time and labor.
Several campus and community groups come together to participate in the three-hour event. A.S. Recycling, Campus Crusade, Chic Alpha, the CSU, Chico Residence Halls, Inter-Fraternity Council, Panhellinic Counsel, Asian Christian Fellowship, North and South Campus Neighborhood Associations, Golden Key National Honor Society, Focus, and “The Edge” at Neighborhood Church are some of the groups participating this year.
Scour & Devour was made possible through the donations of several area businesses such as Albertson’s, Safeway, Tri-Counties Bank, Union Pacific Railroad, Triple J Printers and Waste Management.
