Networking Workshops Offered in New Computer Labs

The Center for Regional and Continuing Education at California State University, Chico presents Internetworking Essentials, a new series of three workshops designed to teach participants the technical, managerial and telecommunications issues related to advanced networking.

These courses will be presented in the new Advanced Networking Lab on campus established through a grant and partnership with Cisco Systems, the world’s leading network equipment provider.

The Internetworking Essentials workshop series is geared toward early career network managers, system administrators, system analysts, network technicians and information technology professionals. Participants will increase their technical and managerial skills, learn the latest networking technologies, network with professionals and experts in the field and develop new skills to be competitive in the Internetworking industry.

The first workshop, Introduction to Networking and TCP/IP, introduces the topics essential to understanding the modern network environment and managing an advanced network system. This workshop will be presented Monday and Tuesday, March 20 and 21, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. This introductory workshop serves as a prerequisite for the remaining advanced workshops. Participants may choose to attend one or both of the remaining workshops.

The second workshop, Introduction to DHCP, DNS and SNMP, explores more advanced TCP/IP applications. Participants will learn how to manage their valuable IP addresses, domain name system, and TCP/IP network resources. They will also learn how to configure servers to support these operations. This workshop will be held Thursday and Friday, March 23 and 24, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The final workshop in the Internetworking Essentials series, Introduction to Cisco Router Configuration, addresses routing related issues in the TCP/IP-based networks. Through hands-on exercises, students will be able to configure and set up a Cisco product-based network. This workshop will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, 8am-5pm.

Cost for the three workshops is $395, $425 and $495, respectively. Sign-up for each of these workshops is required by Friday, March 17. Participants can enroll by calling 530-898-6105 or through the Web site at: http://rce.csuchico.edu/internetworking.

The Internetworking Essentials instructors are experienced network administrators and advanced network instructors. Michael Wang, associate professor in the department of accounting & management information systems at CSU, Chico, has professional experience in data network management, system design, planning, management and programming. Matt Herman is currently the vice president of information technology at GoOn-Line.com, and is a part-time faculty member at CSU, Chico. He has experience managing large scale LAN/WAN environments featuring Cisco routers/switches.
